Indoor Playground Areas and Play Places for Kids near Berks & Montgomery Counties (and Beyond)

Hot on the trail of a “McDonald’s play place near me”? You’ve come to the right place. I’m sure most Xennials (and Millennials) could agree that our childhoods were, naturally, the best. We grew up with the best Saturday morning cartoons (and after-school cartoons), jelly shoes and jelly bracelets the first time around, and of course, original video game systems like Atari and Nintendo, along with every system that rapidly spawned after them. And, and, and—who could forget the joys of the local McDonald’s play place, climbing up into the Hamburglar Jail Tower? Or going inside that weird Grimace thing, whatever it was. Didn’t that have bars too? Now I’m really starting to wonder about those original McDonald’s outdoor play places….

My three-year-old daughter saw an old-school McDonald’s play place photo while I was writing this article, and said, “Mom! What’s that?” And so, I had to explain, “it’s a weird play area that we used to have at McDonald’s when mommy was a kid.” And she of course immediately said, with full excitement and conviction, “I want to go to the weird play area! Can I go to the weird play area?” Part of me is kind of sad for her that the answer is probably not, Sweetie, because I don’t think they exist anymore.

Perhaps that odd prison-like theme is partly to blame for why play places both indoors and outdoors seem fewer and farther between for the fast food giant. You may have even searched for “McDonald’s play place near me” or “indoor playground near me.” Whatever the case, I’ve scoured to find as many local spots as possible with indoor play places from all eateries to bring your kids some exercise, socializing, and fun. Just be warned, this list that follows comes without warranty and you are encouraged to bring along a vat of hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, and your 1980s cootie spray, especially this time of year.

Find a McDonald’s Play Place Near Me

McDonald’s locations with indoor play places do still exist in quite a few restaurants. As if the mere thought of Happy Meals wasn’t enough to delight your little ones, bring the whole experience to perfection by choosing a local Mickey D’s with an indoor play place where your kids can burn off some energy. Different locations may offer different attractions, and the status of the play place is always subject to change, as we’ve found out sadly with our own Gilbertsville McDonald’s closing down it’s kiddie area for picnic tables and a more contemporary look.

Some other local McDonald’s locations are in the process of renovating their play areas, and the hope is that they aren’t on the way out. At the time of this writing, all the listed locations are believed to offer indoor play areas for the kids. But changes often occur without warning and your mileage may vary, so it could pay off to make a quick call just in case something’s changed.

I’ve heard the McDonald’s in Pennsburg also has an indoor playground area that may be under renovation at the moment as well.

This list may not be exhaustive, but it sure is exhausting compiling it, so I’ll pick back up with Chick-Fil-A or Dairy Queen next. Just a reminder that I claim no responsibility for your geography skills or your phone’s GPS capabilities in trying to find these locations. Give it a go with Google Maps to make sure the driving distance is reasonable for you and your petite passengers.

Indoor play place for kidsWherever you decide to go, don’t forget to douse your little ones in hand sanitizer before you head back to your car. I also highly recommend bribing them to eat their meals first so you can hopefully A. get more food in them and B. get less germs in them.
